Anxiety

Spending too much time on social media over 3 hours a day tend to report worse mental health. You may have increase FOMO and feels a sense of anxiety not knowing everything occurring on social media.

Low Self-Esteem

Comparison and validation play a huge role into how people want to be viewed. Social media often encourages to be someone you are just to fit in. You might feel as if you are not good enough compared to the person you have seen on social media.

When you often view someone wh in your opinion, has a better frame than you, it can take a toll on your mental health leading you to think you are "not pretty enough" or "not up to the beauty standards."

Cyberbullying, negative feedback and unrealistic expectations play a role into depression. You may take that criticism to heart which can lead to long term depression. This can be difficult to combat.

Having an social media addiction can stop you from many things. It also thrives you to want more "likes" or "follows" , making you run on that high change of craving more which is toxic for your mental being.

NDA has found that dopamine  hits from social media can lead to similar changes in the brain as those seen in substance use cases, making you crave more stimulation to feel satisfied. This is a long term effect that can be difficult to come over.

Those who tend to be on social media most of the time in their day occasionally lash out whenever they don't have that source of stimulations. Anger, frustration, sadness, all rise due to not having social media. This addiction can be harmful to not only you, but others around you as well.

Social Skills

Too much time on social media can leave you unconnected with the real world. You'll have a lack of what real life situations and conversations are like and wont know how to respond. Social media may make it harder to read body language or have deep conversations, which are important for building empath and emotional intelligence.
